New and Unusual

Try Something New

We're constantly tasting wine at the shop in search of new and unusual wines. These tastings keep us on the cutting edge of what's happening in the wide world of wine and they help us discover new and unusual wines. Here some of our latest discoveries...

2008 Claverach Vineyard Green "Ozark Mountain"

On Sale $11.99

"We love this dry, white wine from Sam and Joanna at Claverach Vineyards in Eureka Missouri. It's made from an interesting blend of Seyval Blanc and Marsanne grapes. Seyval is a hybrid of European and American grapes that's been crossed for hardiness. Our local weather can be severe and Seyval has stood the test of time. Marsanne is a white wine grape from France that's responsible for some of the luscious whites from the Rhone Valley. At Claverach they blend these together and call the wine 'Green.' There's nothing green about it - the wine is fresh and shows off our abundant summer sunshine with ripe pear and peach notes. The wine is a bit sneaky on the palate and we suggest that you don't serve it too chilled or the flavors will elude you. Tasty stuff."

2007 Cantele Telero Negroamaro

On Sale $7.99

"This excellent value comes from Italy's Puglia region (the heel of the Italian boot) and is made from a grape varietal called Negroamaro. It's usually used for blending with other grapes and is widely planted in Puglia. The '07 is really dark in color with lots of red cherry and blackberry notes on the nose. It's rich and layered on the palate with hints of spice in the finish. A perfect pizza-pasta-burger wine."

2008 Cantele Telero Bombino

On Sale $7.99

"This tasty, dry, Italian white wine is made from Bombino grapes. Bombino is a varietal widely planted in Italy's Abruzzo region and Cantele's '08 is a classic example made from a grape that we don't see very often here in the States. It's pale straw in color with a captivating nose of citrus and ripe apples, wildflowers and spice. On the palate it's perfectly balanced by a crisp, refreshing finish. Lip-smacking good and a fine bargain."

2007 Cedarville Grenache

On Sale $25.99

"We love the delicious wines from Cedarville. Their vineyards are in California's Sierra Foothills region with elevations as high as 3000 feet. You don't see much Grenache planted in California which is a shame because we feel the grape has tremendous potential. This is dark in color with a complex nose of ripe fruit and earthy spices. It's rich and layered on the palate with flavors that mirror the nose. The finish is pure silk. Great stuff from an underrated grape and producer!
