Sure, France produces some of the most expensive, rare and collectible wines but there are still bargains to be found. Here are a few of our favorite white wine values from La Belle France.

2008 Domaine de Pouy Cote de Gascogne

2007 Domaine de Beauregard Muscadet "Sur Lie"

"With a bright cut of citrus oil and laying down a faintly bitter chalky, alkaline residue on the palate, this Muscadet would be good to reach for anytime over the next 12-18 months, particularly in pairing with fresh greens and other otherwise wine-killing vegetables."

2007 Chateau Lafayette Bordeaux Blanc

"Bordeaux Blanc? That's right folks. France's Bordeaux region makes some of the world's finest, ageworthy red wines but they also make some impressive whites and a few bargains too. We figure that a large percentage of white bordeaux wines are consumed in locally with the fresh, catch of the day. The Bordeaux AOC shadows the Gironde estuary that flows into the Atlantic. Sure, the French will drink red wine with seafood but certain, delicately-fleshed varieties cry out for a glass of crisp, white wine. The main white wine grapes grown in Bordeaux are Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon and they're often blended together. Chateau Lafayette's Bordeaux Blanc is produced entirely from Sauvignon. The '07 is bursting with fresh, vine-ripened aromas followed on the palate by lively citrus, melon and ripe pear flavors. The finish rounds out the wine with a hint of minerals and refreshing, natural acidity. Makes me think of briny, oysters on the half shell or a funky, aged Chevre from the Loire. A fine bargain..."
